Can women have it all?

I've just finished watching Hilary Devey's 'Women at the top' documentary and I have got to say it surprised me at how there is a serious shortage of females in the highest positions within business.

Its no secret that women have always had to work that little bit harder to get to the highest positions in the workplace. But to have such a small proportion of female directors and CEO's is disappointing and us girls need to push harder to get on top of the lads!

Hilary is the chairman and CEO of Pall-ex; a delivery network for Europe and the UK.  There are currently 10 men on the Pall-ex board and only one women, Hilary herself.

'I did not let being a women stand in my way; if i can do it, anybody can do it!'

Hilary's success is something all of us girls can aspire too! We don't have to follow in societies trends. Time and time again, women reach a stage in ther late twenties where they panic as their biological clock begins to tick.

But why sacrifice success to be a stay-at-home mum?

Yes - we would all love to see our children grow and develop but this does not mean we cannot have a successful career as well! It makes me so angry when I hear from women who feel they need to give up their job just to follow societies expectations and stereotypes to look after the children at home whilst the men go out to work.

If your good at your job, then you CAN have the best of both worlds. I'm not saying it will be easy but its certainly achievable.

Us girls need to work harder and get closer to that 50:50 Board members split!

Rant over.

Much Love

Playa

BLISS
Ohhai again,

1 week in Tennerife; Sunburnt, major food baby and swollen heat absorbed feet but I'm back to rainy England!

Myself and three of the girlfs went to Playa de las Americas for a weeks break; def what I needed after 6 weeks in the office! Although I ended up coming home much more exhausted then ever - don't think I can handle the 6am clubbing finishes anymore.

Our days were pretty simplistic: Wake up, breakfast, lie on sunburn with the occasional dip in the pool and then dinner with cocktails before hitting the clubs. BLISS!

Cocktails on the terrace

Have to admit I was a bit of a wimp and could not take the heat everyday... 38 degrees can be a bit much (especially having only had around 4 hours sleep).

I've managed to come home with a tiny bit of colour but I may have to whip out the tan in a bottle just so people don't look surprised when I say I've been away! :p

Beggin' the tan!

Couldn't leave without having some Mixed Paella and Sangria!

Surf Lesson... Can't see me being a pro anytime soon!

One of the many yummy meals we had. This was Mexican night!

I'm tempted to book up another short break as am missing the sun already! hmmm where to gooo?

Holiday time!

FINALLY August 8th tomorrow and that means only one thing.... TENNERIFE!

I'm jetting off for a week with the girls for sun, sea and sangria (lots of it!)

After 6 weeks in a full time office job, this is just what I need!

I've spent the whole day stressing because I've left everything to the last minute as per. Hair done, nails done, legs shaven and suitcase packed - I'm ready!

Fitting everything into one case was a struggle but surprisingly not as hard as usual. I've learnt the hard way in the past to not over pack and day wear is not really needed as I just live in a bikini by the pool. I'm wearing a classic long black maxi traveling with a hoodie (because of British weather).

I'll take lots of snaps and keep you updated on my time away!

Oh hai stranger...

Ohhaytherestranger!

Ok - So I've disappeared off the face of the earth in the last few weeks. Truth is I've had a 6 week 'city' internship in London which involved lack of sleep, numerous servings of coffee and barely any blogging time.

I received an offer from a top professional services firm last summer to complete a 6 week internship. I had such a ball and met so many nice people. I felt so lucky to have got a place on the scheme after the numerous amounts of people that got turned down for it.

It involved early starts, constant TFL journeys and late nights out with the other interns in central; something I never learnt my lesson about especially having to face a full day hungover the next day!

Oh and did I mention... they offered me a full time job for when I graduate :D

10 Things I learnt from working in the City
1) Women will always have to work that little bit harder to prove themselves
2) Women's office fashion is sooo much more interesting then guys
3) Never go out with the team on an empty stomach
4) Guys in suits sometimes make those long days more bare able ;)
5) Take note of Happy Hours everywhere you go... Can't always afford a £15. cocktail!
6) When wearing a cream top, always bring spare (trust me - Day 4, Mocha Spill on cream top!)
7) Always carry spray... Standing in a sweat-infused train carriage can leave you smelling vile.
8) Never turn down a team social (you don't want to feel left out the next day when they are all laughing about the previous nights antics)
9) Never make it obvious that your in a relationship/married
10) When wearing heels to work, ALWAYS bring flats in your bag. Heels on the underground is always a challenge!

I'll let you in to a few more City secrets in the next few weeks so stay tuned!
